Skyfall – National Gallery – Bond Meets Q

The National Gallery Exterior
The National Gallery from Skyfall, currently under construction. Photo taken (October 2023)

Address: Trafalgar Square, WC2N 5DN

Set Up

Bond meets his new Quartermaster at the National Gallery. Together they exchange small talk which sounds more like code but can’t be if Bond was willing to walk away from the conversation. The ‘bloody big ship’ they are observing is The Fighting Temeraire by Joseph Mallord William Turner.

This is located in gallery 34. I have written about this location on another blog post and included photos and descriptions of the surrounding paintings.

Return of Q

Skyfall saw a return of Q, Ben Whishaw, who would go on to star in both Spectre and No Time To Die.

Closest Bond Location: (Skyfall) Charing Cross. Bond chases Silva through the London underground. Strand, WC2N 5HF.

Closest pint: Unsure, any recommendations please DM me on Instagram.

Good to know

According to the book James Bond On Location: Volume 1: London by by J P Sperati,

This sequence was all filmed out of opening hours in the Sackler Room, just in front of Turner’s The Fighting Temeraire. The room is named after Mortimer Sackler who died in 2010 and who, having made his money in the pharmaceutical industry in the 1950s and 1960s, became a philanthropist, donating money to the National Gallery for the restoration of the principal British Gallery (room 34) which was named after him.

Must listen

This scene was also parodied in a song first featured on the From Tailors With Love podcast. You can listen to it here.

The National Gallery is free to visit.
