The Rotunda Bar and Lounge

Address: Ten Trinity Square, London EC3N 4AJ

Set Up:

In Skyfall M and Tanner are called in front of Mallory (Ralph Fiennes) for a review which M calls ‘a bloody waste of my time.’ There in Mallory’s office she is informed that she is being dismissed, with full pay and honours, ‘retirement planning’. M (Judi Dench) out right refuses any package or mention of her being let go from her post until the ‘job is done.’

The History

Whilst the meeting is supposedly taking place we assume somewhere in Whitehall, we are in fact near Tower Bridge along the River Thames in East London. Ten Trinity Square has an incredible history, and it’s a shame we didn’t see any of the interiors in the film itself.

I recommend you read up on the history, which dates back to the Roman times. The building itself was designed in 1922 which is why you see the 100 signs on the entrance steps.

Excavations on display found onsite

During excavations to support the original foundations, a number of significant Roman archaeological finds were made, including chalk-walled cellars, cesspits, animal remains and a well. All of these items were given to the Museum of London Archaeology.

The Interiors

As for the insides itself, I wondered in and took a couple of photos of the lobby area. Beyond there you can walk through to the Rotunda Bar and Lounge, you can drink and eat there even if you’re not a guest at the hotel. I’m informed if you want to book you can even do it through their website or Open Table.

If you’re looking for things to do close by there is of course the Tower Of London, they do tours. But if you wonder down to the closest underground station (Tower Hill) you’ll also see tours advertised such as this one for Jack the Ripper tours. I did one myself back near Whitechapel back in the day and can recommend.

Closest Bond location:

HMS President: Where Daniel Craig was announced as the new James Bond. Featured in the article here. Don’t forget to buy the physical version of the London Bond map to assist you on the go when you’re next in London.
