According to this post on the Southampton Arms Instagram account, Daniel Craig popped in not for a photoshoot, but for a pint. It looks like a photoshoot because the pub is empty, and the photo looks almost curated. Good lighting, no packets of Scampi Fries in the background. Etc.

The Southampton Arms
I picked my Mum up from St Pancras and got the 214 bus north. It doesn’t open till noon so we had a sandwich in the cafe next door. According to the nice young lady that served us the pub gets rammo at weekends. She didn’t know anything about Daniel Craig visiting the pub (despite it being pinned to the top of their Instagram page) as it was before her time.

Same spot
The Southampton Arms website advertises 18 handpulls of ale and cider from small and independent UK breweries. The interiors are a rare mix of classic hardwood floors and wood panelling, with a communal seating arrangement. The most notable thing is that the stool with its bowed legs upon which Craig sat is still there. According to this article in HamHigh, the owners described Craig as a “really decent bloke”. The owner Peter Holt founder of Hackney Wick’s Howling Hops Brewery goes on to say “We don’t have a phone and we don’t take bookings, reserve seats, tables, areas or any of that caper.”

Dog friendly. My dog Roger, getting comfy.
They are also opening up a new pub in Islington called The Pocket trying to capture the lightning in a bottle that is The Southampton Arms.

Pint
There are some beautiful shots of this pubin this feature by Pellicle Magazine, although a feature lenght interview there is no mention of Daniel Craig.
After a lovely pint we then got the bus down to Camden Locks and continued our hunt for Bond locations which I’ll cover in another feature.
